My Life as a Blacksmith Demonstrator
Roy Adams began blacksmithing in 2008 as a hobby, and fell in love with it. He spent time studying under advanced level blacksmiths such Wayne Apgar, Clay Spencer, Peter Ross, Douglas Pryor, and Thomas Latane. Within a few short years, it became his full time career. As his business grew, he did local blacksmithing demonstrations for art galleries, street fairs, groups and clubs.
In December of 2012, Roy did a live blacksmithing demonstration at Dayton Visual Arts Center. In May and Oct of 2013, Roy did a blacksmith demo at Urban Nights Street Fair. In June of 2013, Roy did a blacksmithing demo for Boy Scouts Summer Day Camp. In March 2014, Roy demonstrated forging a one piece calla lily at Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil. In June 2014, Roy did a demo at a Juried Art Show hosted by Preble County Arts Association. In May 2015, Roy did a local forging demo for Taste of the Arts. In September of 2016, Roy was an assistant demonstrator to Peter Brunner for forging a Bench at Quadstate Blacksmith Conference. In March 2017, Roy did a forging demonstration for a high school group from Troy Christian School. In September 2017, Roy did a demo for “Iron Sharpens Iron”, a Christian boys youth event. In December 2017, Roy did a blacksmith forging demo at Preble County Arts Association for “Arts Night Out”. In March 2018, Roy did a forging demonstration for a group of students attending a private high school. During July 2018, Roy was the conference demonstrator for the Western Reserve Artist Blacksmith Association. In October 2019, Roy did a blacksmithing demonstration at the Good of the Land Fest. In 2021, Roy demonstrated at the Ozark Blacksmith Conference the making of a french baroque sign bracket. In November of 2022, Roy demonstrated forging an ornamental french baroque hook at two conferences: Florida Artist Blacksmith Association and the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association. In August of 2023, Roy demonstrated forging an anchor at the Michigan Lighthouse
Festival at Presque Isle Lighthouse. In May of 2024, Roy demonstrated “Baroque
Style Elements” at the Appalachian Area Chapter of Blacksmith’s Conference.
