Testimonial from UMBA
I had the opportunity to invite Roy and his family out to southern Wisconsin to demonstrate for the fall conference of the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association back in Autumn, 2022. The techniques demonstrated by Roy at the anvil were truly remarkable. Roy provided an exquisite demonstration of traditional blacksmithing techniques to produce a beautiful ornamental wall hook in the elaborate baroque style. I've never seen anything like it! His execution of collaring, scrolling, very delicate forge welding, and highly detailed smithing accompanied a deeply thorough and on-going discussion of the key aspects to focus on in this project and others of the same style. Roy came equipped with all of the tooling needed, much of which he crafted himself throughout his career and was diligent with passing these articles around the room so individuals could photograph them and replicate at their own shops. I sincerely appreciate demonstrators and instructors like Roy who harbor no "trade secrets" and will gladly answer any questions that come their way. Roy's passion for teaching the craft of traditional artisanal blacksmithing should be readily apparent from his tireless work producing quality instructional YouTube videos for nearly a decade now. I highly recommend inviting him as a demonstrator for your upcoming events. Sincerely, James Davidson, President: Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association
