I just returned from the Quadstate Blacksmithing Conference that is held every September in Troy, Ohio. I had a fantastic weekend, but it sure was full of work! I was the main assistant to demonstrator Peter Brunner from Bavaria. This years Quadstate theme was international blacksmiths. We had three different demonstrators, each from a different country- Ireland, Europe, and Africa.
Peter Brunner had the largest project out of all the smiths. His project was a bench made from 13 bars making the sitting portion, joined using traditional techniques. I was the striker to slit and drift 39 holes into the bars, as well as assisting start to finish. In the photo slideshow, you will see some of the stages the metal went through to become a bench. I was proud to have a part in making such a bold piece of art.
