During the month of October, I was commissioned to create a forged baptismal font for the St Andrew Catholic Church in South Carolina. I've done bowls of all sizes, but this one was fairly large, measuring in at 16 1/2" wide (including the rim) by 4 3/4" tall. The church wanted it to have the dark copper color, so I polished the bowl but left it uncoated so that it could age naturally.
It took about 4 weeks to forge by hand, with thousands of hammer blows going into the piece. When I got to the finishing stages, I was able to polish it to a fine luster. It really reflects the light in a fascinating way!
