From time to time, I get the opportunity to teach a blacksmithing class in my local community. In October, I taught a class on making copper bowls. The class took place at Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil (SOFA) home of the Quadstate Blacksmith Confrence in Troy, Ohio.
I taught the basics of creating a hand forged bowl- the layout, forging, and finishing procedures I employ on a forge color copper bowl. The students were able to experiment with the shape and form of their individual projects and bring their concepts to life.
One student said this about the class, "Thanks for hosting such an awesome class. I'm very new to blacksmithing and learning to forge copper is very exciting. As of Monday morning my excitement is at full steam!"
We had a terrific time in class. I love working with my hands, and I am grateful to play a part in enabeling others to do so also.
If you are interested in trying blacksmithing, look for a blacksmithing club or craft school in your state. You can also follow me on facebook to see updates on future classes I will be teaching at www.facebook.com/christcenteredironworks . Photos courtesey of Mike Brennan
